While many people think root canals are treatments that cause pain, this idea just isn’t true. Any aches the tooth feels are due to the infection in its deepest layer – its pulp. Instead, our dental office’s root canal treatment in Nepean can actually end your smile’s discomfort. This procedure from Dr. Gus Bal would end your tooth’s infection and even save it from falling out. If you’d like to learn how that’s possible, simply keep reading or book a visit to see us.

What Happens During a Root Canal?

At our office, a root canal takes place over two dental visits set a few weeks apart. Dr. Bal also administers anesthesia so it won’t cause you any pain. Instead, your treated tooth and its surroundings will be numbed during the procedure.

The root canal itself follows a few major steps. First, Dr. Bal will isolate the tooth with a dental dam and use special tools to reach its inner chambers. He’ll then remove the infected pulp once he’s identified it and clear the canals of any lingering bacteria. After the clearing, Dr. Bal will fill the newly-empty space with a tooth-colored material and sculpt accordingly. Doing so will seal the tooth off from future reinfection as well as provide it with much stability.

Following the root canal, we’ll (likely) place a custom dental crown over your tooth. This addition will further ensure the treatment site is protected. While you adjust to it over the next few days, you can take store-bought pain relievers to manage any soreness.
